As well as figures Mego also released some vehicles for the 3 3/4 figures to fit in. As with most toy lines from that time they made some ships that featured in the show but also liked to create new vehicles that had nothing to do with the show. |
Laserscope Fighter: Here is an example of a ship that had nothing at all to do with Buck Rogers but was released as a BR toy. The ship is actually quite good though, there is a view screen on the back that allows you to see a mirrored image of what's infront of the ship. |
Two buttons on either side allow you to shoot (with a terrible screeching noise), or explode the image in the viewscreen. For it's day this was probably quite advanced. This ship was later repackeged for the film 'The Black Hole' but these versions are very hard to find. |
Land Rover: A great toy based on the Land rover from the show. The only problem with it, is the fact that it looks so cheap. The vehicle features: Swing-open cockpit, Free wheeling rolling threads, Real Motor sound (sounds like a clicking noise to me), and authentic decals. |
The Land Rover is also supposed to have been based on the blue prints drawn up for the show. Over all this is a pretty good toy. |
Draconian Marauder: This has to be my favourite of the vehicles, it looks cool and feels pretty well made. Again this was based on the original show blueprints. The vehicle features: Swing-open cockpit, and Retractable landing gear. |
I always find it amazing that Earth was always trying to find piece with a race who's name is Draconian. Their name says it all. |
Corgi Starfighter: This Die cast ship wase made by Corgi in 1979, it's a nicely detailed version of the ships featured in the show. The ship originaly came with two plastic figures of Buck and Twiki, unfortunatly my Twiki has seen better days and has lost and arm. The Ship features opening wings and firing missles. |
Corgi Junior Starfighter: Corgi also made a smaller Junior version of the starfighter which only featured opening wings. |
Monogram Starfighter Kit: This is a great kit of the Starfighter and it seems to be pretty acurate to
the original model. Released in 1979 this is one of the few Kits that has not had a re-release. You can download the instructions that came with this kit here. |
